Best Gas Mileage - Increase My Gas Mileage

With gas prices climbing higher and higher, more and more people are asking the question, 'How can I improve my gas mileage?'. The good news is that There are plenty of ways to increase gas mileage and save money on gas. However, just knowing what to do to get better gas mileage isn't good enough. We must apply what we know if we really want to see results and get the best gas mileage for our money.

Of course, one might be inclined to think that all is needed to increase gas mileage and save money on gas is to just simply pick one from several of the best gas mileage vehicles; but this isn't necessarily the most practical thing to do for many people as they just don't have the means to go out and get another car.

Besides, it's not just a matter of buying one of the best gas mileage vehicles to solve the problem; it's an issue of getting as much gas mileage from your money as you can. In other words, even if you could afford to get the best gas mileage vehicle on the market, that doesn't mean you should stop there (you should try to save money on gas in more ways than one). And frankly, it may not even be worth it to get such a vehicle as the added expense for it may well exceed what you would pay for gas anyway, thus resulting in no actual savings!

You see, the idea here is to save money on gas and increase gas mileage with optimal results, not to spend more under the pretense that you're saving money when in fact you aren't doing anything else but adding further expenses to your financial injury. In short, if you plan on getting one of these gas saving vehicles just be sure to count the cost first.

With that being said, I have put together a list of what I believe to be practical measures that can be taken to increase gas mileage and save money on gas without putting a hole in your savings account.

1. Drive Slower to Save Money on Gas

This is obviously the golden rule of saving money on gas. In fact, most people are already aware of it.

However, many continue to ignore it!

Frankly, why people feel a need to drive 10-15 miles over the speed limit is beyond me! From my observation I've noticed that driving faster only means the difference of a few minutes; and in many cases it doesn't really make a difference at all, at least not one that's worth risking getting into an accident over, or being issued a speeding ticket for!

Look, the best advice here is to just relax and drive slower. If you are pressed for time, then prioritize your daily activities so that you can get what you need done without getting all stressed out over the idea that you don't have enough time for everything that you need to do.

A lot of people use the expression that 'there aren't enough hours in the day'. That is quite far from the truth. You see, it's not a matter of there being a lack of hours, but rather a lack of will to make a reasonable schedule by which to live.

If you want to save money on gas and have a desire to increase your gas mileage, then you will do what is necessary to prioritize your daily activities and discover that you have all of the time that you need to do what you need to do. Thus you will start saving more money on gas because you won't have to burn so much of it by driving so fast for fear that you might not get everything done that you really need to do.

2. Drive Strategically to Increase Gas Mileage

Save money on gas and increase gas mileage by getting as much done as you can while you're out and about in your car. For example, if you need to pick your children up from school check your refrigerator to see if there's anything you need from the grocery store. This will not only save money on gas, it will also save you time, because you won't have to make an additional trip from your house just to go grocery shopping.

Incidentally, you can apply this principle in many ways to save money on gas. You just need to be creative and put a little thought into it...

3. Get a Cookbook to Save money on Gas

Seriously! Instead of wasting gas by driving to your local fast food restaurant just cook your own meals.

By the way, if you do this you won't just save money on gas, you'll also spare years of your life by taking positive steps towards having better health! After all, most of what you will find at a fast food restaurant is not even fit for human consumption.

4. Maintenance Your Vehicle for More Gas Savings

Be sure to change your oil on time and do what's necessary to keep your car in good running condition. By doing this less stress will be placed on your engine while driving. Thus you will save money on gas and increase gas mileage.

5. Get a Credit Card That Has a Good Gas Rebate

There are plenty of Credit cards these days that offer rebates on gas for as much as 5%! Such savings add up, and could very well prove to save you a lot of money over time.

By the way, if you use a credit card to pay for your gas, just be sure to use it only for that purpose. The balance will be easier to keep track of and pay off during the grace period by doing this. The whole idea here is to save money on gas. If you pay interest on your gasoline purchases this won't happen. So be sure to use your credit wisely!

6. Use Regular Grade Gasoline

Unless your vehicle has a lot of miles on it it's not necessary to use a higher grade of gas. However, if your vehicle has a lot of miles on it (more than 100), it would be best to use a higher grade gasoline as it would help to keep your engine running better. Remember, less stress on your engine means less gas consumed, and less gas consumed means more money in your pocket and more gas mileage on the road!

7. Look for Patterns in Gas Pricing

I've noticed that on certain days of the week gas prices go up, and on other days they go back down again. I don't know if that's the case where you are, but it's certainly worth looking into as it could save you a lot of money over time when you choose to purchase gas only on those days when prices are down.

Therefore, be sure to observe gas prices while you're out driving. If you notice a pattern of gas price fluctuation keep a note of it. Such knowledge could prove to save you a lot of money!

So there you have it! Seven practical ways to increase gas mileage and save money on gas. Of course, this list isn't exhaustive, but I like to think that it suffices the need to provide people with a good place to start taking action to save money on gas and increase gas mileage!

Just keep in mind that by doing any one of these things you will save money, but by doing several or all of them you will save even more!
